“How Hundreds of Thousands of Muslims are Falling in Love with Jesus”

Jesus said, “Go therefore and make disciples.” (Matthew 28:19)
“Miraculous movements are sweeping through some parts of the Muslim world today. The Spirit of God is moving in a powerful way—indeed, in a way that we think is unprecedented—as hundreds of thousands of Muslims are turning their lives over to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Former sheikhs and imams; men who bombed Christian churches and mercilessly persecuted the followers of Christ; ordinary men and women who have followed the teachings of Islam their entire lives—these and many others are finding the truth of eternal life through Jesus Christ, and the number increases every day.”
As I read this book, I was overwhelmed and challenged by the stories of Muslims becoming Christians and how God is working in their lives. Some stories told of Muslims seeing visions or dreaming dreams of Christ, or seeing miracles of men and women being healed of addictions or physical illnesses.
It became clear, after reading this book, that Muslims do not have easy lives. They are often discouraged and disheartened people and many of them are desperate to find a God who loves them and to find hope for their future. There is a question we as Christians should be asking ourselves, What would happen if we began “to engage Muslims beyond the headlines of burkas and bombs?”
I realize that living where I do, I don’t see many Muslims, but I do see them when I travel, and I also am becoming more and more aware of the many missionaries around the world who minister to them. Jesus said to love our enemies. I think many Christians look at Muslims as enemies, therefore I think we should follow what Jesus said, and love them, not in our own strength, but by asking Jesus Christ for that kind of love. This book goes into great detail of how God is using this kind of love to reach Muslims around the world.
This book describes a movement that is happening in many countries around the world called the Disciple Making Movement. It was developed with the understanding that “God is preparing Muslim hearts to respond to genuine Christian compassion.” They are succeeding when they “go simply as friends who love Muslims”. It is not a program that they put in place, but it is based on the Holy Spirit, prayer and the human touch. It is also based on Biblical examples of finding “people of peace” in Muslim communities. The book of Acts tells us of Cornelius and his household, Lydia and her household, and the Philippian jailer and his household who could be considered “people of peace”.
Some excerpts from this book:
“Nothing is sure in Islam. Even the sheikhs are not sure if they will be in paradise, they tell you that only Allah knows.” –a former Muslim, now a church planter
“The Sheikh’s dream—Hanif was a seasoned Muslim leader”
In his dream……
“Hanif had encountered a very handsome and graceful man. The man addressed him by name, simply saying that he wanted Hanif to serve Him. But then came a warning: Hanif must learn to listen to Him, the man said. Surprised and shaken, Hanif asked, “Who are you?””
“I am Isa al Masih [the Qur’anic term for Jesus the Messiah],” the man answered, “and if you obey me, you will succeed in what you have longed for in your life.”
Hanif was told to wait under a tree for a man whose face he saw in the dream. Hanif went and waited all day, but finally saw the man. The man was Wafi, who had also had a dream,“ in which God had said to him, “I will give you a sheikh!”
The sheikh was so excited that it took him some time to convince Wafi that he was not going to hurt him. The sheikh wanted Wafi to understand that it was Jesus himself who wanted him to answer his many questions.
“Finally, Wafi suggested that they go quietly to Hanif’s house where they could have privacy to talk more in depth. There they found a stunned wife who understandably had more than a few concerns about what was happening in her family. But within days, she and her husband had both experienced what true freedom in Jesus Christ means, especially for those who had lived for so long with dark uncertainty and discouragement.”
As you can see from this story, God is working in the hearts of Muslims. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to know more about what God is doing to draw Muslims to Himself.
